Oregon Scaling Up EBISS Webinar # 3: December 12, 2012

Organizational Supports Implementation Drivers: What the data says about facilitators and barriers webinar recording is available for viewing  here.

Summary of this webinar:
In this third webinar of the series, Kathleen Jackson explains how the drivers stress the importance of using data to identify the barriers and facilitators to implementation, so a Facilitative Administration can provide the supports required to strengthen implementation of your chosen evidence based practice. The importance of developing and maintaining strong instructional leadership between district and school administration is explained. This relationship focuses on the current level of staff practice in each building and knowledge of the resources and supports schools need, given their unique challenges.
At the end of the webinar participants developed one action item to strengthen the relationship between district and building administration to support staff competency.

Oregon Scaling Up EBISS Webinar # 2: November 21, 2012

Competency Implementation Drivers: Facilitators to Implementation Webinar Recording is Available for Viewing here

Summary of this webinar:

In this second webinar of the series, Kathleen and Erin reviewed the ever so important District Leadership Implementation Team and its relationship to effective evaluation of your chosen evidence based practice (EBP). Competency Drivers were discussed as a way to assist your teams to identify next steps in assessing the competency of your staff, in relation to your EBP, as well as, effective evaluation of Staff Competency to assess the need, required resources, readiness and capacity of school and district staff, in relation to your EBP. At the end of the webinar participants developed one action item to move toward effective evaluation of Staff Competency.

Oregon Scaling Up EBISS Webinar # 1: November 7, 2012

Stages of Implementation webinar: An Implementation Science Framework Recording is Available for Viewing here.

11_7_2012_SPDG_Breadth_Webinar1 - Computer.m4v from Eugenia Coronado on Vimeo.

Summary of this webinar:

In this first webinar of the Breadth series, Kathleen and Erin went over the Stages of Implementation with a focus on Exploration. Our hope was that this webinar would help your team identify the Stage of Implementation you are currently in, with reference to your chosen evidence-based practice, and hopefully, we met this goal last week.

Something to remember and that we talked about in more detail on November 7th is that the stages are not linear and your team may find attributes from more than one stage that you have in place or that you are missing. It will be important to consider the Stages of Implementation and ensure "Readiness" so your team can create or continue to create a collective commitment, district-wide, to build capacity for implementation fidelity.

Establishing the Why: Open Post-Training Discussion Thread

We hope you had a really good training day yesterday. We sure did, thank you for participating.
Many of you discussed the importance of establishing why we do this work with all staff. Here is a link to a powerful Ted Talk by Simon Sinek on the importance of establishing the why

If you view the Ted Talk and want to share your thoughts about how this relates to education, the change process and setting the district vision, you are invited to post your thoughts below this post, in the comments section.

EBISS Scaling Up Events Calendar

Welcome!

Welcome to the Oregon Scaling-Up

Effective Behavioral and Instructional Support Systems (EBISS)

EBISS Scaling Up

-->

The Oregon Department of Education was awarded a State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) in October 2011 by the U.S. Department of Education - Office of Special Education Program (OSEP).  The SPDG Breadth opportunity is funded by Oregon’s SPDG.  Oregon school districts taking advantage of the SPDG Breadth opportunity will have access to information about EBISS and creating the structures, practices and policies that allow EBISS work to be sustained.

Effective Behavioral and Support (EBISS)

EBISS
-->
The principal goal of EBISS is the improvement of academic and behavioral student outcomes.  Oregon EBISS school districts receive support to implement a continuum of effective, research-based, and sustainable school-wide academic and behavioral support systems. The Oregon Department of Education and their partners at the Center on Teaching and Learning have provided professional development and technical assistance to Oregon school district leadership teams to implement tiered interventions for academics and behavior since 2007. Through the sustained application of a blended model of Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), district staff is able to meet the academic and behavioral needs of every student in their schools.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)-

PBIS
-->
PBIS can be best described as a “data-driven, team-based framework or approach for establishing a continuum of effective behavioral practices and systems that (a) prevents the development or worsening of problem behavior and (b) encourages the teaching and reinforcement of prosocial expectations and behavior across all environments for all students by all staff (Sugai, Simonsen, & Horner, 2008).”

Oregon’s Response to Intervention (Or-RTI)-

OrRTI
-->
The Oregon Department of Education has contracted with the Tigard-Tualatin School District since 2005 to deliver RTI technical assistance to Oregon school districts. The technical assistance is focused on high quality core instruction, tiered intervention systems, teaming, and data analysis. Additionally, districts learn to make educational decisions by applying child response data to the RTI system to identify students with Specific Learning Disability (SLD) for special education services.

State Implementation & Scaling-Up of Evidence-Based Practices (SISEP)-

SISEP
-->
The State Implementation of Scaling-up Evidence-based Practices (SISEP) is an initiative from University of North Caroline at Chapel Hill. Implementation Science researchers from SISEP work with identified agencies and states to improve capacity to implement and sustain organizational changes and systemic improvements to improve student academic and behavioral outcomes.

Oregon’s SPDG project has four broad areas of focus that are described here. The Center on Teaching and Learning at the University of Oregon is working with ODE to integrate these four improvement efforts so districts and schools have strong support to initiate and sustain improved student outcomes.

This Blog is intended as a resource for districts involved in the SPDG Breadth opportunity.  Participants may use this Blog as a venue to share successes and challenges in the braiding and integration of these initiatives and to access valuable resources.
